Isaiah 5:1–7
1 I will sing for my Beloved, my Beloved’s song about His vineyard. My Beloved had a vineyard on a fertile hillside, 2 and He fenced it in, cleared it of stones, planted it with choice vines, built a tower in its midst, and dug a winepress in it. He expected it to yield grapes, but it yielded wild grapes. 3 Now then, inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, judge between Me and My vineyard. 4 What more could have been done for My vineyard that I have not done for it? Why, when I expected it to yield grapes, did it yield wild grapes? 5 So now I will tell you what I will do to My vineyard: I will remove its hedge, and it will be destroyed; I will break down its wall, and it will be trampled. 6 I will leave it desolate: it will neither be pruned nor cultivated, and thorns and briers will grow up in it; I will command the clouds not to rain on it. 7 The vineyard of the Lord of Hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah are His cherished planting. He expected justice, but behold—bloodshed; He expected righteousness, but behold—a cry.
John 15:1–8
1 I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He cuts off; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes so that it may bear more fruit. 3 You are already clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in Me, and I in you. Just as a branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it remains on the vine, neither can you unless you remain in Me. 5 I am the vine, and you are the branches; whoever remains in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit, because apart from Me you can do nothing. 6 Whoever does not remain in Me is thrown out like a branch and withers; such branches are gathered and thrown into the fire, and they burn. 7 If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 My Father is glorified by this: that you bear much fruit and become My disciples.
Matthew 20:1–16
1 For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard. 2 And after agreeing with the workers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard; 3 and going out about the third hour, he saw others standing idle in the marketplace, 4 and he said to them, “You also go into my vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you.” So they went. 5 Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hours and did the same. 6 Finally, going out about the eleventh hour, he found others standing idle and said to them, “Why have you been standing here idle all day?” 7 They said to him, “Because no one has hired us.” He said to them, “You also go into my vineyard, and whatever is right you will receive.” 8 When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his steward, “Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last and ending with the first.” 9 And those who were hired about the eleventh hour came and received a denarius each. 10 When those who were hired first came, they thought they would receive more, but they also received a denarius each. 11 And when they received it, they began grumbling against the landowner, 12 saying, “These last workers have worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us, who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.” 13 But he answered one of them, “Friend, I am not doing you wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius? 14 Take what is yours and go. I want to give this last worker the same as I gave you. 15 Am I not allowed to do what I want with what belongs to me? Or is your eye evil because I am good? 16 So the last will be first, and the first last. [For many are called, but few are chosen.]
Matthew 21:33–41
33 Listen to another parable: There was a landowner who planted a vineyard, put a fence around it, dug a winepress in it, built a tower, and leased it to tenants before going away. 34 When the harvest time approached, he sent his servants to the tenants to collect his fruit. 35 But the tenants seized his servants; they beat one, killed another, and stoned a third. 36 Again he sent other servants, more than the first time, and they treated them the same way. 37 Finally, he sent his son to them, saying, “They will respect my son.” 38 But when the tenants saw the son, they said to one another, “This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and take his inheritance.” 39 So they seized him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him. 40 Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants? 41 They said to Him, “He will bring those evil men to an evil end and lease the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the fruit at the proper times.”
Psalm 80:8–9
8 You brought a vine out of Egypt; You drove out the nations and planted it. 9 You cleared the ground before it, and it took deep root and filled the land.
Song of Songs 2:15
Catch the foxes for us, the little foxes that ruin the vineyards, our vineyards that are in bloom.
Jeremiah 2:21
I planted you as a noble vine, the purest seed; how then have you turned before Me into a wild vine of a foreign stock?
Matthew 9:37–38
37 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few; 38 therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”
Isaiah 27:2–3
2 In that day sing about it—a beloved vineyard: 3 I, the Lord, am its keeper; I water it every moment. I guard it night and day so that no one can break into it.
Luke 13:6–9
6 He also told this parable: “A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none. 7 Then he said to the keeper of his vineyard, ‘Look, for three years I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree and find none. Cut it down; why should it use up the ground?’ 8 But he answered and said to him, ‘Sir, leave it alone this year, until I dig around it and fertilize it. 9 Perhaps it will bear fruit; but if not, then next year you can cut it down.’
