Lesson 16. Seasons in Hearing God. The “How to Hear God” School was held at Father’s Blessing Church. Author – John Paul Jackson. Teacher – Dmitriy Leo
There are different seasons in hearing God. There are times to read, times to listen, think, or simply be silent. We must submit to the leading of the Holy Spirit. We should not force God to speak when He is prompting you to pray. Nor should we pray when God wants to speak to us. The main thing is to come to Him and remain close to Him. There are several basic seasons of abiding before God.
1. Listening
- – get comfortable and relax your body
- – calm down and quiet yourself and your thoughts
- – ask the Holy Spirit, who gives peace, to come upon you and bring you revelations and visions
- – begin tuning your heart to listen
- – keep your focus on hearing God, and if distracting thoughts come, fight them by praying in tongues or asking God to fill you with peace
- – write down in a journal what you hear
- – ask God how to put into practice or resolve what you have heard from Him
2. Reading the Scriptures
- – pray and ask the Holy Spirit to lead you and show you exactly what to read
- – read, stop and meditate, then continue reading
- – if you are studying a particular topic, read more verses, chapters, and examples; but if you are studying a specific passage of Scripture received from God, it is better to “dig deeper” into it for longer
- – it is helpful and important to always keep other translations or reference materials at hand so that you can compare unclear words or learn more about them
- – write down all the revelations and conclusions you receive while reading and meditating on the Scriptures
3. Meditation
- – ponder in your heart what you have received or read
- – take the word and memorize it
- – repeat it aloud to yourself
- – allow Him to interact with your thoughts, hopes, desires, and dreams
- – sometimes a single word or phrase will fill all your time with Him
4. Prayer and Fellowship
- – do what you know will make it easier to pray
- – talk with God, conversing with Him in love
- – devote your spirit, soul, and body to Him
- – talk about your experiences and sins
- – allow His Word to transform you and bring healing
5. Abiding in God
- – simply rest in His arms
- – set your thoughts aside
- – listen to His thoughts
- – enjoy His silence; you can play soaking music
- – do not expect an epiphany of bright light or an angelic visitation
We should remain calm and choose the rhythm or way of abiding before God that is right for us today. And above all, do not limit God by time. He does not limit us by time; it is a matter of our decision how much time we will give Him and when.
End of lesson.
