Lesson 1. Why People Dream. The Father’s Blessing Church School, where Senior Pastor Dmitriy Leo revealed the distinctive features of dreams and visions from God.
The nature of sleep has not been fully studied.
Here are the main theories:
- Sleep provides the body with rest.
- Sleep plays an important role in metabolic processes.
- Sleep is the disposal of unnecessary fragments of information in the brain.
- Sleep helps process and store the information received during the day.
All these theories have many contradictions.
For example, scientists have discovered that when a person sleeps, their brain works so actively that at times its activity exceeds that during the day. Therefore, the theory that the brain rests at night is incorrect.
It is also obvious that a dream is not chaotic chemical processes in the brain.
- After long, agonizing deliberation over the molecular structure of benzene, the German physicist Friedrich August Kekulé once saw it in a dream.
- Albert Einstein slept for ten hours and said that he discovered the most important elements of the theory of relativity in a dream.
- Niels Bohr saw his famous model of atoms in a dream.
- In a dream, the German mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss solved a problem he had struggled with for 19 years.
- A dream helped an Australian microbiologist and Nobel Prize laureate discover the antibacterial properties of a substance from mold, which was named penicillin.
- In a dream, the inventor Howe conceived the idea of a sewing machine with the needle's eye at the bottom.
- Aircraft designers Tupolev and Antonov derived many technical solutions from dreams.
- Mozart, Beethoven, Wagner, Schumann, Saint-Saëns, and Tchaikovsky created under the influence of dreams.
- Artists Van Gogh, Alexandre Benois, and Salvador Dalí saw ideas for some of their works in dreams.
As you can see, the theory that “a dream is the disposal of unnecessary fragments of information in the brain” is incorrect. All these people received highly precise details, ideas, and technologies in their dreams, applicable to various areas of human activity.
Well-founded reasons for the appearance of dreams.
1. A dream is an indicator of the functioning of a person's internal organs.
A dream may indicate existing problems or warn of impending health problems.
For example, some people may have nightmares after experiencing psychological trauma. This is especially common among people who have participated in combat or experienced a situation in which they were on the verge of life and death. Such dreams show that a person needs inner healing, also known as healing of the soul.
Dreams may also indicate the onset of certain diseases in the body. After analyzing thousands of dreams, scientists suggested that Botkin's disease can be predicted a week in advance, neurosis—from one week to several months in advance, chronic gastritis—about a month in advance, hypertension—2–3 months in advance, and brain tumors—as much as a year in advance.
The source of warning dreams is stimulation that comes not from the external world but from the body's internal organs—the stomach, intestines, bladder, lungs, and so on. All these organs are connected to the cerebral cortex, which can result in nightmares.
2. A dream is a reaction to external stimuli.
Scientists Dement and Wolpert sprayed water on sleeping subjects to record a specific moment during sleep. For example, one subject dreamed that he was participating in a play.
Thirty seconds after cold water was sprayed on the back of his head, he described the following story: “I was walking behind the leading actress when she suddenly fell and water poured over her. I ran up to her, and the water also began running down my back and head. I looked up and saw a hole in the ceiling. Immediately afterward, I woke up.”
The following was observed:
- When the body is cold and there is a risk of hypothermia, or when it is very hot and overheating may occur, a person may dream of snow or fire.
- A suffocation nightmare occurs when the respiratory organs are constricted.
- A feeling of being naked occurs when the blanket slips off and the body cools down.
- Erotic dreams are often associated with a full bladder or irritation of the genitals.
- Etc.
A similar incident happened to me.
I dreamed that I was sitting in the front seat of someone else’s car with unfamiliar people. Then the person sitting in the back reached his hand between the seats and plunged a sharp object into my side. I realized it was a knife. Feeling a sharp pain in my side, I decided to get out of the car.
With difficulty, I unfastened my seat belt, turned around in the car seat despite the pain, opened the doors, and fell out of the car. At that moment, I woke up and noticed that I was lying on a children’s toy that was pressing into my side. Just as in the dream, I turned and moved to the side.
3. A dream is a point of contact with the spiritual world.
Contact can take place both with the kingdom of darkness and with the Kingdom of God. Unbelievers involved in spiritual practices encounter the spirits of the dead in dreams. This shows that the “dark” spiritual world can, under certain conditions, contact the physical world through dreams.
Some believers are also subject to the influence of the “dark” spiritual world. One sign indicating demonic influence on a believer’s life is demonic attacks or systematic nightmares in dreams.
Attacks include physical touching, strangulation, or violence against a person.
However, no one should worry about this. It is a rare phenomenon, or, more precisely, isolated cases.
Moreover, this does not refer to all dreams with unpleasant content. It refers to dreams after which a person experiences exhaustion, torment, fear, and even physical discomfort or illness. Such dreams may indicate demonic influence on a person.
At the same time, most believers are able to receive useful information from the Kingdom of God in dreams. The Lord or angels may appear in a dream. We call these contact dreams. Non-contact dreams are dreams in which a person passively observes and receives. This is the type of dream seen by 90% of believers. Learn more about these dreams at the “Dreams and Visions” school on the website of Father’s Blessing Church.
Thus, a dream is an indicator of the functioning of internal organs, a reaction to external stimuli, and a point of contact with the spiritual world. But most importantly – a dream is a vehicle for conveying important information from God to a Christian.
End of lesson.
