1 Scripture passage · “Father’s Blessing” Bible
Psalm 51:1–19
1 For the choir director. A psalm of David, when the prophet Nathan came to him after David had gone in to Bathsheba. Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your great mercy, and according to the abundance of Your compassion, blot out my iniquities. 2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin, 3 for I acknowledge my iniquities, and my sin is always before me. 4 Against You, You alone, have I sinned and done what is evil in Your sight, so that You are righteous in Your verdict and blameless in Your judgment. 5 Behold, I was conceived in iniquity, and my mother gave birth to me in sin. 6 Behold, You love truth in the heart, and within me You have revealed wisdom [to me]. 7 Purify me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. 8 Let me hear joy and gladness, and let the bones You have crushed rejoice. 9 Hide Your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. 10 Create a clean heart in me, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. 11 Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and establish me with a willing Spirit. 13 I will teach transgressors Your ways, and sinners will turn to You. 14 Deliver me from bloodguilt, O God, God of my salvation, and my tongue will praise Your righteousness. 15 Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare Your praise: 16 for You do not desire sacrifice—I would give it; You do not delight in burnt offering. 17 The sacrifice pleasing to God is a broken spirit; a broken and humble heart You will not despise, O God. 18 In Your good pleasure, [O Lord,] do good to Zion; build the walls of Jerusalem: 19 then You will delight in righteous sacrifices, offerings and burnt offerings; then bulls will be offered on Your altar.
