Does God Exist?

October 19, 2026

The Bible does not set out to prove God’s existence: it begins with God and assumes that He exists. Scripture says that the world created by God testifies about Him, and Paul tells the Athenians that God is not far from each of us. This answers the question “what does the Bible say,” rather than offering a philosophical or scientific proof.

What Does the Bible Say About This

  • The Bible’s first page speaks of God, who created the heavens and the earth (Gen 1:1).
  • The heavens and the firmament declare the glory of God, and their voice is heard throughout the earth (Ps 19:1–4).
  • Paul writes that what can be known about God is evident to people: His invisible attributes—His eternal power and divine nature—are clearly seen through the created world (Rom 1:19–20).
  • In Athens, Paul says that God created the human race so that people would seek Him, and that He is not far from each of us (Acts 17:24–28).
  • The author of Hebrews writes that anyone who comes to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him (Heb 11:6).

Acts 17:24–28

24 God, who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made by human hands. 25 Nor is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives everyone life and breath and everything. 26 From one blood He made every nation of humanity to dwell on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their dwelling, 27 so that they would seek God and perhaps reach out for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us: 28 for in Him we live and move and have our being, as some of your own poets have said: “For we are indeed His offspring.”
