A Homeless Footballer from Congo: After Prison—Documents, Work, and Housing

April 17, 2020

A story worthy of an adventure novel—or how God can find someone even among the homeless in a foreign country…

Two years ago, in a dream, God showed me a certain man. He was in our Father’s Blessing Church. And at the end of November 2015, God prompted me to visit a homeless shelter, where I met this man. He was a young Black man from Congo, a professional footballer. At the end of 2013, during a layover, he was illegally detained at the airport on the grounds that his documents had been improperly completed. A week later, having received no money from this young man to confirm that his documents were valid, they sent him to prison. He was released a year later. He found himself on the streets in a foreign country, with no money, unable to speak the language, and without documents. All he had was a photocopy of a sheet of paper stating that he was from Congo. He wandered the streets. Homeless people helped him. They brought him to a shelter.

After hearing this story, I realized that I had to help him. But how? I began telling people about him. I invited him to a conference, where our ministers and ministers from abroad prayed for him. Very soon, a man was found—also from Congo—who knew how to help him. He verified the story and, after confirming that it was true, began helping. He made phone calls and told him what to do, where to go, and whom to contact. Within a few months, this young man had a passport in his hands. All the documents were obtained free of charge, even though they would have cost about $1,000. Today, this young man has documents, a job, and rented housing. Thank You, our Father, for Your love, care, and provision. Nothing is impossible for You.
