Romans 13:1–7
1 Let every soul submit to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God; the existing authorities have been established by God. 2 Therefore, whoever opposes authority opposes God’s ordinance; and those who oppose it will bring judgment upon themselves. 3 For rulers are not frightening to those who do good works, but to those who do evil. Do you want not to fear authority? Do what is good, and you will receive its praise, 4 because the ruler is God’s servant for your good. But if you do evil, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing: he is God’s servant, bringing punishment upon the evildoer. 5 Therefore, it is necessary to submit not only because of fear of punishment, but also for the sake of conscience. 6 This is also why you pay taxes, for they are God’s servants, continually occupied with this very task. 7 Give everyone what is due: to whom tax, tax; to whom duty, duty; to whom respect, respect; to whom honor, honor.
1 Timothy 2:1–2
1 Therefore, first of all, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be made for all people, 2 for kings and all those in authority, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceful life in all godliness and purity,
Titus 3:1
Remind them to submit to rulers and authorities, to obey them, and to be ready for every good work,
1 Peter 2:13–17
13 Therefore submit yourselves to every human authority for the Lord’s sake: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, 14 or to governors, as those sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. 15 For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people. 16 Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s servants. 17 Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the king.
Acts 5:29
But Peter and the apostles replied, “We must obey God rather than people!”
Proverbs 21:1
The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, like streams of water: He directs it wherever He wishes.
Daniel 2:21
He changes the times and seasons; He deposes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding;
Mark 12:13–17
13 And they send some of the Pharisees and Herodians to Him to trap Him in His words. 14 When they came, they said to Him, “Teacher, we know that You are truthful and do not care what anyone thinks, because You do not show partiality but teach the way of God in truth. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not? Should we pay or should we not?” 15 But knowing their hypocrisy, He said to them, “Why are you testing Me? Bring Me a denarius so I can look at it.” 16 They brought one. Then He said to them, “Whose image and inscription is this?” They said to Him, “Caesar’s.” 17 Jesus said to them, “Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.” And they were amazed at Him.
Proverbs 29:2
When the righteous increase, the people rejoice, but when the wicked rule, the people groan.
