Lesson 6. What Is the Meaning of Your Life? The Christian’s First Steps

February 22, 2022

Lesson 6. What Is the Meaning of Your Life? The Christian’s First Steps school is intended for new believers. Prepared by Pastor Dmitriy Leo for Father’s Blessing Church, 2022.

Many people strive for recognition, respect, honor, and prosperity—these become the meaning of their lives. But ultimately, the millionaire, the worker, and the beggar will all reach the end of life in the same way—they will lose everything. Those who had little will lose little; those who had much will lose much. This is the “perspective” of this world.

Respect, recognition, beauty, prosperity, power, and so on cannot be the meaning of your life, because they can be lost much faster than they are acquired.

God provides not for our plans in Him, but for His plans in us. God is very good, but He will not support what has no eternal value. We want to receive everything at once, but God looks farther ahead. We think about our bills, while God thinks about our eternity. We think about renovating our apartment, while God thinks about our heavenly home. We must understand that God has a brilliant future in store for us—He desires to give us the very best!

Who will reveal the meaning of life to us?

If you were shown a new invention, how could you learn its purpose? You would have to ask the inventor or read the user manual. In the same way, we can learn the meaning of our lives by asking God and finding the answer in the Holy Bible.

Colossians 1:16: All things were created by Him, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through Him and for Him.

We were created by God and for God. Until you understand this, your life will be without meaning. We were created for God, not the other way around, and the purpose of our lives is to allow God to fulfill His purposes in us and through us—not to use God for our own interests. To live only for yourself is the same as wasting your life. God can offer us far more than we can offer Him.

We do not have the right to live as we please. We cannot scatter our efforts on useless things, because God has a plan for us. It is impossible to do everything others want and demand of us. We have time only to fulfill the will of God, and we must strive to know it more and more.

Eph. 5:15–17: Therefore, pay careful attention to how you live—not as unwise people but as wise—making the most of the time, because the days are evil. So do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

Many people live according to their own plan and script, so nothing changes in their lives. God created us, not the other way around, and He is not obligated to support all our decisions. This is one reason why many work but have no profit; pray but receive no answer; minister but have no anointing. God is simply telling them: “I am not in what you are doing! If you do not care about My plan for your life, you may do whatever you want, but do not expect My support!”

Look back on the past year of your life! Where did you invest your time, strength, and money? What occupied most of your time? Did you achieve God's purposes? Was God's will fulfilled? And most importantly, does what you spent your time, strength, and money on have value in God's eyes?

Our years on earth are limited, so we must not spend the time intended to fulfill God's will satisfying our own whims.

Acts 17:26: From one blood He made every nation of humanity to live over the whole face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their dwelling…

In this life, we can earn more money, buy more cars and houses, expand a business or ministry, but we cannot buy or earn more time. Time is what we are constantly losing.

Each of us received our own ‘talents’—1, 5, or 10—and from that moment the countdown began, so we need to hurry and put our ‘talents’ to work. When Jesus comes, many people will be surprised to discover that they did not do what God entrusted to them.

What is the meaning of your life?

1. You were born for eternity

You do not live on earth to make yourself comfortable and achieve comfort HERE. You live on earth to prepare for eternity. True life will begin after death; for now, all of this is preparation. Death is not the end but a gateway to eternity.

2. You were created for God

You were not created to live for your own pleasure. Your time belongs to God, and He directs your life. What matters is not your plans but God's. You must not build your life by looking at others. You must not build your life according to your own desires. God has a will for you, and you have a specific amount of time to fulfill it.

To live for God and prepare for eternity, we must know His will. We need to build our lives on eternal truths, not on popular psychology and modern motivational methods taken from books or videos.

Seek God's will in the Holy Bible. This will help you discover God's plans for your life each day.

1 Timothy 4:16: Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in them, because by doing so you will save both yourself and those who hear you.

Seek God's will in prayer. This will help you discover and fulfill God's will each day.

Matthew 6:10: Your Kingdom come; Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Conclusion

If you want REAL change, start living not for yourself, but for God.

  • Direct your strength ONLY toward what has eternal value.

  • Use your time ONLY to fulfill God's will.

  • Invest your finances ONLY in things that matter to God.

The meaning of your life is far deeper than satisfying your needs. Life is preparation for eternity and selfless service to God.

An amazing journey lies ahead of us, and we need to invite as many people as possible to join it. Share this truth with those around you. Gather your children at home, visit relatives and acquaintances, go to other people and talk with them about the meaning of their lives. Tell them that we were created by God to live for Him, serve Him, and then spend eternity with Him.

God has prepared an amazing life for everyone with Him in eternity, which will last for an endless number of years. There will be no tears, hunger, sickness, wars, betrayal, or environmental pollution—no evil at all! Absolute peace, absolute security, absolute happiness, and absolute love will reign there. We will enjoy Heaven and spend all eternity discovering how wonderful everything our loving Father created for us in the universe is. And most importantly, we will constantly see our God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 2:9: But as it is written: “What no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart has conceived—God has prepared these things for those who love Him…”

Do you want this? If so, say with me: “Amen!”
