A great sign appeared in the sky!
Even today, remembering that day fills the residents of Yelets with a mystical sense of dread.
“Nothing foretold the storm that day,” recalls Yelets resident Valentina FEKLINA. “Suddenly everything grew dim, even though it was six in the evening, and it became as dark as night. We had never seen such a thunderstorm—the sky flashed with several lightning discharges at once. Rain poured down like a wall, making it impossible to see anything at all. Then hail the size of sparrow’s eggs began to fall. The storm raged for about an hour and subsided just as suddenly as it had begun.”
“My husband managed to capture the Crucifixion on his phone,” said teacher Tatyana M. “He was filming near the depot. Other people were with him; they also saw the cross and filmed it on their mobile phones. Several people could not all have imagined the same thing.”
I watch the recording. A cross-shaped glow is clearly visible in the sky. It seems to hover above the rooftops. Gradually, the outline of a person begins to emerge within it—a head, outstretched arms; in short, it looks exactly like the crucified Savior. Another flash of lightning, and the Crucifixion seems to turn into a cloud and begin moving away. Another discharge—and the cross stretches out in the sky again. The vision lasts about a minute.
Meteorologists are also perplexed. They cannot explain it through the laws of nature. “We did not see the Crucifixion in the sky ourselves, but we heard a great deal about it from people,” staff at the Yelets hydrometeorological station told AiF-Lipetsk. “They said the unusual glow was the size of a three-story building. Sometimes the sun appears as a cross—this happens when four additional disks form around the edges of the solar disk in the shape of a cross. This is a very rare phenomenon that usually occurs at sunrise and is caused by the way the atmosphere refracts light. But we have never heard of anything like this occurring during a thunderstorm. When it happened, we tried to find an explanation in the scientific literature, but we never did.”
